| Help! What if I don't know how to do that kind of dancing? | English Country Dancing is so easy, you can pick it up the night of the event. It really involves just standing in two long lines, gentlemen on one side, ladies on the other, and listening to the directions called out by the Dancing Master, Reg Battle, who specializes in teaching complete novices. You've probably done it at school. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| NO! Of course you can if you wish, but don't let the lack of a date stop you from coming to the dance. It's not that sort of dancing, anyway. You will be dancing with several different partners in the course of the evening, and in two great lines--gentlemen on one side, ladies on the other--so you won't be caught without a partner. Come to the dance on your own, come in a group, come with a date--just come and have fun! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Is this the kind of dance where I need to bring a date? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Don't let that stop you! Just put on your black tie outfit and dance. Regency dress would be nice, but it's certainly not a requirement. You can also visit The Busy Student's Guide to Creating a Regency Costume for helpful tips and ideas. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What if I can't find a Regency Costume? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| YES! To protect yourself (and our ninteenth-century tiled floor) you should wear no- or low-heeled shoes. The softer the sole, the easier to dance in. Ballet shoes or ballet flats are ideal for ladies, being both easy to dance in and fairly close to Regency shoe styles. NO HIGH HEELS, please! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
